The great giveaway
Submitted by lori on Sat, 11/28/2009 - 14:11Reader's Digest had a great article by Litty Mathew about Letting Go in this month's issue. I wish I could attach it here, but unfortunately I can't find it online anywhere. The premise of the article was to let go of a treasure and give yourself the greatest gift of all. The gift of feeling free.
I absolutely love to pass items on to people especially when I know that it is needed or loved, but rarely do I give a treasured gift away. We see our clients daily being uplifted when they decide to let go of clutter and take the first step towards freedom from their stuff.
I didn't realize though how great it felt to take the next step. Letting go of a very treasured item, not just the items that don't carry much meaning. In the article the author was trying to find a substitute for shopping. She wanted the high without the credit card hangover, or the feeling of self-loathing when she opened her closet.

The art of delegation seems to be an area that is very difficult for people to learn. Etiquette and manners from years gone by have added to our lack of asking for help. We don't want to appear rude or we don't even know how to ask for help without sounding terribly bossy. There is a fine line between being perceived as pushy, lazy and rigid and being able to delegate effectively. Usually all that is necessary is a change in tone, adding please and thank you and setting boundaries. I think we might have learned most of this in kindergarten but have lost it somewhere along the way.
